Kansas Plans To Retire Mario Chalmers' Jersey

Jan 24, 2013 8:22 PM

Kansas will retire Mario Chalmers’ at halftime of the Jayhawks’ game against Texas on Feb. 16.

“Mario definitely deserves to have his jersey hung,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “He was the most outstanding player in a 2008 Final Four, which featured four number one seeds. He was as clutch of a player as we’ve ever had here.

"He was a guy that seemed like the bigger the stage, the brighter he shined. He had an orneriness and toughness that a lot people didn’t see because they saw the smile. He was an assassin on the court.”

Chalmers hit the shot that propelled Kansas into overtime against Memphis in the 2008 national championship game.

McLemore Gaining Momentum As GM's Top Pick

Jan 23, 2013 2:00 PM

Ben McLemore has had a hugely impressive redshirt freshman season at Kansas.

McLemore has a True Shooting Percentage of .651 this season and a PER of 24.61.

McLemore is gaining momentum as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

"I spoke with five different GMs this week who told me they'd take him No. 1," wrote Chad Ford. "McLemore has been the best college player I've watched this season. I love him. A great combination of athleticism, length, shooting ability, ball handling and defense. He has the chance to be a very special player at a position that's been very weak over the last five years."
